It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas #4: cow gifts

My mom is planning to visit us during the Christmas holidays and I know she’s planning to pack a number of goodies and gifts for all of us in her suitcase. Actually, she had so much to give us that she sent a care package ahead of her visit to lighten her load.

So many yummy things for us to eat in there! Fresh madeleines, some cookies, lots and lots and lots of chocolate, books in French for the kids… I felt like it was Christmas morning when I opened the box. But then I saw this and I laughed out loud!

It’s a Milka cow and its zipped belly is full of Milka chocolate bars! The kids had some chocolate tonight, they seemed to like it quite a bit. My mom refused to take credit for this cow and said my cousin saw it in an airport and couldn’t resist buying it for me. Now I just have to find a nice place for it after we’re done eating its “guts”.

And you’d think this would be the only cow in the box, right? Well, it wasn’t! Here are more cows on a metal box of French cookies called galettes (similar to shortbread, but thinner).

I want to guess there are plenty of cows on the box because the galettes are made with butter. But then again, there’s a whole herd of sheep on the front panel of the box, and I don’t think the sheep are part of the ingredient list in any way.

This box is great, it will keep company to the other cow box sitting in my pantry, the one my mom gave me in the past. Cows galore in my kitchen!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas #3: this is the best Christmas tree cow ornament ever!

While our family was having Thanksgiving dinner at my friend’s Isabelle’s house and I was admiring her bull sculpture, I explained her husband the purpose of this daily cow blog. I told him cows are just everywhere around us, even in places you’d never think of seeing cows, including Christmas trees. After I mentioned I’ve spotted Christmas cow decorations in the past (there’s a big Christmas cow decoration right on my About page), Isabelle started to wonder if she actually had a Christmas tree cow ornament.

Well, I guess she’s been working on her Christmas tree because this is the photo she texted me this afternoon.

Oh my gosh, isn’t this the funniest Christmas tree cow ornament ever? Look at the poor cow’s freaked out eyes, the giant muzzle, the red and green boas wrapping up her body, and let’s not forget the glittery pink shoes!

Really, have you ever seen anything like it, cow or not? Wow, this cow will probably make it to my Top 10 Best Cows of 2011! (yes, there’s such a list coming, and you’ll welcome to submit your favorites starting now)

Holy cow, a cowmedian!

Tilly Bud at The Laughing Housewife awarded her weekly CoWAbunger to Pseu this morning, for several hilarious comments she posted on Tilly’s blog this past week. Pseu comments on this cow blog quite a lot too and I have to be careful not to have any food or drink in my mouth when I read her notes, for fear of spitting it out on my laptop screen.

Well done, Pseu, I love the award Tilly chose for you. You ARE quite a cowmedian, there’s no udder way to say it!

 On another note, my husband was kind enough to share his cow of the day with me by email. He found it at a discount store while browsing the toy aisle.

“I moo” – it’s a cow themed wedding!

Did you hear about the British farmer couple who just said “I moo”? You’ve got to see it to believe it!

This couple of young British farmers got married a few days ago in England. The bride arrived at the church on a large tractor. The married couple later used the same tractor to drive to a field full of cows, where they got their wedding pictures taken. How romantic!

During the wedding reception, the newly weds got to follow tradition and cut their wedding cake together. And what’s more appropriate as a cake topper than a cow couple?

The couple decided to spend their honeymoon in Hereford, Texas, the beef farming capital of the world. After that, they’ll be back on the farm, working to raise their own cattle. The bride also makes rugs and accessories out of cow hide as a side business. What an enterprising young couple!

Foam cows and sticky cows, what a day!

Today started with my kids digging up some toy capsules out of their treasure box. All you have to do is dunk them in hot water for a while. When the capsules dissolve you’re left with foamy shapes, such as animals, dinosaurs, you name it. Until the shape appears, you have no idea what’s in the capsule. This is what one of the capsules contained this morning:

 Later this morning I went to Michael’s arts & craft store to get some supplies for homemade Christmas gifts. One of them will be refrigerator magnets made with clothespins (cute, huh?) so I needed colorful scrapbook paper for them. I also looked for stencils or stamps to use for homemade Christmas cards and that’s when I walked into an aisle I’d never visited at Michael’s: the sticker aisle!

Oh boy, I only took a few photos but I think you’ll get the idea pretty quickly that if you want to see a lot of cows, this is a great place!
