WordPress weekly photo challenge: My 2012 in pictures of cows

I love the WordPress new photo gallery feature and this is a great way to display a lot of photos in one post. I also love the opportunity to review a year of cows by showcasing the best of the year. If you missed my Top 10 Best Cows of 2011, make sure you take a look.

This year, there was no runaway cow (at least that I know of) and no ugly cow sofa, but still plenty of memorable cows for 2012. They include my very own cow slippers, as well as a whole shelf of cow slippers I almost bought, skiing cows, cow artwork, the Skinny Cow, the American Flag cow, the cow from the Puss in Boots movie, the udder rings, the birthday balloon cow, the grossest birthday card cow, the cow flashlight, the bug-eyed cow, the hot air balloon cow and the lawn mowing / bulimic cow. Enjoy!

I witnessed my first cow birthday today

Today I took my boys to a San Diego County park called Dos Picos, a beautiful location in the East County hills, covered with lushy grass and lots of trees (a rare sight in San Diego). We first enjoyed some fun time on a large playground, then sat down by the pond of a picnic lunch, followed by an afternoon walk (and a unexpected run-in with a park ranger offering several activities for kids – how fun!).

As we started eating lunch, we noticed a group of people setting up for a birthday party. It took us a while to figure out we were actually sitting at one of their reserved tables, but they were nice enough to let us finish before regaining use of the table.

Take a look at what we got to witness happening right in front of us. It’s my first cow birthday party!

Did you see the cow hide pattern tablecloth on the left? The cow balloon floating in the air? And the other cow balloon sitting on the right table?

But wait, there’s more! More cow balloons showed up before we finished our lunch.

Phew, that’s a lot of cow sightings for a day, don’t you think?

It’s a cow-a-bungee birthday card!

It’s hard to pick the perfect birthday card for a four-year old boy but I got lucky at Target and found one with a Tyrannosaurus Rex. A great choice for a boy who loves dinosaurs and can identify many more of them than I’ll ever be able to.

I managed to look at almost every single birthday card in the aisle to find this one. But I really can’t complain because I also found this very funny cow birthday card. Here’s the front:

Can you guess what the cow is about to do? Something I’d never dare doing, whether on my birthday or not (courtesy of fear of heights, as well as a high dose of common sense). Here’s the inside of the birthday card:

Oops, that cow got so scared it squirted out some milk… Happy birthday!

Cows wish happy birthday to a little man

My little one is turning four in a few days and he just received an early present. My mom mailed him his birthday card and he got the opportunity to open the envelope a few days early.

The birthday card’s theme is Old MacDonald (had a farm) and here’s the front of the card. Notice the cow at the bottom left corner.

And here’s the inside of the card, with a dancing cow. And a dancing pig, a dancing sheep, a dancing farmer… You get the point, it’s a birthday party!

The best part about this card is, it’s a singing card! It sings the “Old McDonald had a farm” song and it has just one volume setting. SUPER loud. And my kids love it! Isn’t it always this way?

So I tried to share the song with you, especially since it’s actually singing the cow part (with a moo moo here, a moo moo there…) but I used my cell phone camera and somehow it didn’t record the sound. The only explanation I have is, the microphone shut off when it heard the screaming loud song. Just be glad I spared your ears.

New Real California Milk ads with cows

New Real California Milk ads with cows

The Real California Milk association is launching a series of new ads called “Make Us Part of Your Family” and I have to admit, most of them are pretty funny. I understand several of the ads will play during the upcoming 2012 Superbowl. I have seen the announcement from Real California Milk pop up in my Facebook news thread and I thought I’d share with you a few of my favorites.

The first Real California Milk ad is called Mom Jeans and there are no words to describe it fairly, so I’ll just let you watch it.

There are many other new ads in this series and you can view all of them, along with their previous ad campaigns, on the Real California Milk YouTube site, but I’ll share one more. It’s called Birthday Party and it shows you that if you ever decide to make a cow part of your family, she’ll be fun but also won’t mind telling it like it is.
