What happens when you cross a cow with a giraffe?

Have you ever wondered what would happen  if you crossed a cow with a giraffe? Yeah, me neither. Well, that’s until earlier this week, when I heard my kid say, “Mama, you’ve got to see this!”

He’s right, I had to see it and now you’re seeing it too. I present you the cow giraffe!

Isn’t it cute? It came from a bag full of self-adhesive foam animal shapes similar to this one. It’s the only animal in the bag that looks this close to a cow.

By the way, if you’re curious to know what happens when you cross other animals together, I have one more for you. What happens when you cross a leopard and a cow? A leopard cow, of course! Courtesy of the Cow Parade people.

Are you ready to play the game “caption this picture”?

I saw a very funny board game a couple of days ago at Target called Bubble Talk. You have to match a funny caption (supplied on a card) with a funny photo and the funniest caption wins. Look at the front of the box so you can have an idea of how this game works:

Oh, that is sooooo my kind of board game! Now, take a look at the photo used on the back of the box:

Uh-oh, I’m glad I’m not the one stuck up there! Are you ready to play the game and come up with a caption or bubble for this funny cow photo? I’ll start. You leave your caption/bubble in the Comments section below.

- “Great. How am I going to explain this to Farmer John?”

- “Hey, Daisy! Isn’t this how you do the monkey bars?”

- “Maggie said she got her udder job that way but I think she lied.”

Your turn!

Is Target trying to compete with Pillow Pets?

If you don’t know what Pillow Pets are, look on Amazon and you’ll find quite a lot of them there. You should also read my cow post on Pillow Pets.

I stopped by Target a few days ago with my kids, with the goal of buying a few grocery staples. Of course, we can’t go to Target just to buy food, so we had to make a pit stop by the toy department and see what was new. Apparently, a lot. At least that’s what my boys said.

But I myself found something new too. Target’s homemade version of Pillow Pets. Look how cute this cow is!

I have never seen such flat udders though. Poor cow…

Target has a number of other animal pillows, including a sheep, a bear, and of course a pig. A very pink pig.

This poor little guy fell off the hook. I guess he was waiting for someone like me to rescue him.

Do you have a Pillow Pets, by the way? They look pretty comfy.

That darn Red Bull truck…

People in my town must be really tired (I know I am) because I’ve been seeing the Red Bull delivery truck more often in the past few weeks. I’m guessing the truck driver drinks a lot of Red Bull because I never manage to take a picture of the truck before it disappears around the corner.

Well, yesterday was my lucky day because I managed to take this photo as the truck was turning left at a light.

Consider this post a bonus edition, because look at the cute cow puppet I spotted at Michael’s art & craft store this past weekend. Of course, BFF (best friend forever) Piggy is right behind as always. This cow is begging me to take her home…

The many cows of Idyllwild, California

I’m back from spending a week with my kids in the beautiful mountains of Idyllwild, California, a small town just two hours away from San Diego. I used to be able to enjoy the greenery mountains just 30 minutes away from San Diego too, until the wildfires in 2003 and then again in 2008 burned all of it down. And when I say all, I mean all. So today the trip is a little longer to find tall, green forests but it’s worth it.

On the way there and back, I saw quite a few cows, mostly the Angus beef kind, grazing in grass fields by the side of the road. Unfortunately I was driving and with no easy and safe place to pull over and take pictures, I have nothing to show you when it comes to real cows.

I did see lots of images of cows during our stay in the town of Idyllwild though. I think the first occurrence was at the grocery store, on the side of an ice-cream freezer. Who can resist a pint or a cone of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream?

But by far, the one place in Idyllwild with the most cows was the toy store / old-fashioned soda pop shop . Yes, it sounds like quite a weird mix, but apparently it’s a very popular place on the weekends.

There was the Melissa & Doug Farm Friends floor puzzle:

And even an Animal Planet coloring & activity book:

I’m sure there were actually more cows than I could see but after all, I was there to pick up some fun, cheap toys with my kids. And no, we didn’t buy anything with cows.

Stay tuned for more cows from our vacation. Some of them happen to be quite ancient.
