WordPress weekly photo challenge: My 2012 in pictures of cows

I love the WordPress new photo gallery feature and this is a great way to display a lot of photos in one post. I also love the opportunity to review a year of cows by showcasing the best of the year. If you missed my Top 10 Best Cows of 2011, make sure you take a look.

This year, there was no runaway cow (at least that I know of) and no ugly cow sofa, but still plenty of memorable cows for 2012. They include my very own cow slippers, as well as a whole shelf of cow slippers I almost bought, skiing cows, cow artwork, the Skinny Cow, the American Flag cow, the cow from the Puss in Boots movie, the udder rings, the birthday balloon cow, the grossest birthday card cow, the cow flashlight, the bug-eyed cow, the hot air balloon cow and the lawn mowing / bulimic cow. Enjoy!

My first Skinny Cow truck

The only other place I’ve ever seen a skinny cow was at the grocery store and it was quite a while ago, in the frozen dessert aisle. I’ve never tasted Skinny Cow ice cream but I hope it does taste good.

Imagine my surprise earlier this week when I spotted the official Skinny Cow pinup girl not inside a grocery store, but outside of it. Here she is, on the side and on the back of a large delivery truck.

Wow, I’m not sure I’d like to be driving right behind or next to this Skinny Cow truck. That image might be a little too disturbing distracting. Have you ever spotted the Skinny Cow truck on the road before? If so, how did you react?

Battle of the daily cows: which ice cream would you buy?

This morning our family’s day off (Martin Luther King’s day) started with a trip to SeaWorld San Diego. After we walked around for a couple of hours, we decided to grab lunch somewhere else. That’s when I realized that I didn’t see my famous SeaWorld cow (read Did you know they have cows at SeaWorld? for the background story). I swear we went by that cafe location, but I never saw the cafe or the cow, and looking at the park map, I couldn’t find it either. I can’t believe the Mango Joe’s Beach Cafe may be gone and the sun baskin’ cow too…

We then went to Souplantation for lunch, where our kids’ milk bottle always displays a happy cow (Heritage milk, with Real California Milk):

Talking about milk, I had to take a little trip down to our local Target to refuel. You can’t avoid walking by the ice cream section when getting milk and something caught my attention.

Check out the cow on the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream carton:

Doesn’t this cow fully represent the picture of happiness? We know Ben & Jerry only get their milk and cream from farmers who pledge to treat their cows well, without overuse of hormones and antibiotics. All I can say is that it shows in the picture!

Now, right next to the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, you can opt for lower-calorie choices such as Skinny Cow:

Now, I’m sorry to say this, but even though the cow is smiling, it does NOT look healthy!!! If I saw such a skinny cow, I’d call the Humane Society and report its farmer for neglect! Or maybe the cow is anorexic and has some serious body image issues… Either way, I’m not buying it!
