The first cow of the year was at the Rose Bowl parade!

Well, it didn’t take long today to see my first cow… About 15 minutes into the Rose Bowl Parade on NBC, my kids spotted it on the screen before I did. It proudly stood at the front of the Discover-sponsored State Fair float, which I believe won the event’s Grand Prize. My guess is the cow had some subconscious influence in the judges’ decision.

So here are a few pics for you, including the lifesize cow itself during the creation of the float:

Here’s a concept of the Discover State Fair float, so you can see the cow standing upfront, leading the way:

After doing a little online research, I found out that Discover actually created a WordPress blog documenting the creation of their float for this year’s Rose Parade. Check it out to see how the float was made, it’s quite fascinating! And here’s a video of the finishes touches, including the pasting of thousand of flowers and leaves to the float:

I saw many more cows today, but I’ll mention just another one because of the ridiculous aspect of it. I found it on a flyer at Henry’s, our local produce supermarket. January is the month of good resolutions and I guess this applies to animals too. Here’s the front page of the flyer, showing a cow, a pig and a chicken:

Here’s a close-up of the cow, lifting dumbbells made out of cantaloupe melons and cucumbers. Wow, how silly is that???

Remember this picture the next time you go to the gym and see someone lifting dumbbells!
