Dancing cows show up in a dog book!

A couple of days ago, I borrowed the children’s book “Dogs don’t wear sneakers” by Laura Numeroff, who wrote the famous “If you give a mouse a cookie” and many similar funny books afterwards.

Well, I have to admit I was quite shocked when I opened the book and saw this was the first illustration inside:

I love the fact that the inside title page, which clearly states “Dogs don’t wear sneakers” actually shows cows! And wait, what’s on the next page right after this one?

Yes, it’s a skiing yak! And for those of you who may want to argue with me about a yak being a cow, check Wikipedia. Yaks do indeed belong to the bovine family. So there you have it, a book with “dogs” in its title portrays more cows than dogs. Actually it portrays more cows than any of the other animals in the book.

Now, it wouldn’t be fair to finish this post without showing you the dancing cows in action, so here you go!

And if you liked that yak above, here it is again, a little further downhill, illustrating the obvious fact that yaks may ski but surely shouldn’t…

So here’s a big thank you to Laura Numeroff for making me and my kids laugh with this book, and showing us that one more time, cows rule the world of children’s books.
