You can expect to see cats, dogs, birds, hamsters and other creatures when you browse the pet food aisle, but did you know you can also find cows? No, my local store doesn’t sell hay, but it does sell cat food with cow pictures on it. Check out what I found in the treat section:
Here, kitty, kitty, dinner is served! I’m guessing that’s what the cat is thinking, while the poor cow doesn’t even look worried it will end up in a bag of treats. Somebody should clue Daisy in.
Now for the scary part. The bag says it’s “hearty beef flavor” so you know I had to check my facts on the Whiskas Temptations website. Well, it’s all true, it really is just “flavor”. There’s actually not one ounce of beef in that bag. It’s chicken by-products, ground corn, and more by-products of by-products. What gets labeled as “hearty beef flavor” is actually beef fat – the nutrition label literally reads “Animal Fat (Source of Beef Flavor)”.
Beef fat, that’s hearty all right, although I heard it’s actually pretty bad for your heart. Fortunately those treats only are 2 calories a piece, which is good news because you know your cat will only ask for one…
Meow, meow, moo!
