Can you hear the singing cows?

We’ve all heard about cats and dogs, but what about cows and dogs? Well, Harry the dog seems to know all about it. I recently borrowed Harry And The Lady Next Door by Gene Zion from our local library to read with my kids.

What would you expect to see in this book as you’re reading it? How about Harry the dog, the lady next door, and maybe a few stray cats, dogs and people to populate the story? All of these characters appear at some point during the story, and somehow, so do cows…

Harry’s lady neighbor sings high and loud, hurting Harry’s ears. So he decides to find a way to improve her singing, including examples of good singing. That’s when he runs into cows, which apparently are great singers, with their soft and low voice.

Harry decides to bring the cows to the lady next door, so she can get inspired by their soft and low voices. Needless to say, it doesn’t work.

Poor cows, you can’t say they didn’t try. And this lady is so painful to listend to, I think I’d rather listen to the cows a little longer.
