Since today was going to be a hot one inland (mid 90s), we decided to take the kids for a visit to the San Diego Botanic Garden, which is about a mile away from the ocean in Encinitas, CA and 30 minutes from our house. I’m not sure we evaded the heat because it felt quite warm in the sun and there was only a light breeze until we left, but we had a great time.
The kids got to enjoy the new children’s garden where they were able to climb up a treehouse, make mud pies and play barefoot with boats in a little man-made stream. We then took a stroll in desert landscape, South African landscape and a rainforest with a lovely, refreshing waterfall. That’s where we decided to enjoy our well-deserved morning snack.
No trip to such garden is complete with a visit to the gift shop, which has to be the smallest gift shop in San Diego, allowing for no more than five people in at a time… There you can buy books on gardening and birds, a few T-shirts and hats, and of course, a cow puppet!
I have no idea why this cow is for sale in a botanical garden but we sure had a laugh. Happy 4th of July to everyone in the USA!
