Even wild cows and wild pigs hang out together

We spent this morning at the San Diego Zoo, which for an August morning was surprisingly empty of the usual tourists. We saw quite a lot of animals during our visit, including a cheetah being walked on a leash just a few feet away from us! As we entered the Ituri Forest exhibit, we started looking for river otters (we never found them) and that’s when we spotted this animal below. I apologize for the poor image quality, as I forgot to bring my good camera and had to rely on 2MP cell phone camera.

This bovine is called a forest buffalo and if you look closely (sorry, you may have to squint), you’ll see a wild river hog laying down on the ground in front of it. Yes, that’s the orangey fur ball on the ground. The San Diego Zoo apparently knows something I’ve wondered for a while now: cows and pigs get along very well so they get to share the same exhibit.
