I read a lot of children’s books with the boys and you wouldn’t believe some of the ideas the writers come up with. Some stories are so good, funny, or tender, you can’t help but think, how come I didn’t think of that? And then there are some books you can’t help but wonder, what were they thinking?
This book, Hush Little Bear by Jeff Mack, belongs to the latter category.
Let me first say this book is very cute, with its beautiful illustrations and a tender story about a girl and her stuffed polar bear. The only thing is, at the beginning of the book you don’t know the girl is imagining what her polar bear would dream if he was real. The story just makes you think you’re reading about a real polar bear’s dream and this is one of the first scenes:
I’m not sure a polar bear would ever dream of cows, unless global warming is so bad polar bears actually know about cows.
Imagine what the cows would do if a polar bear ran through their field? Oh wait, that bull in the middle seems to be waiting for our little friend to wreck havoc. Eh, I don’t think I want to see what’s next…
